Professur
Full Professorship (W 3) for Theoretical Systems Neuroscience

This professorship is also particularly suitable for highly qualified early career researchers.

The future job holder should be internationally renowned for the investigation of complex brain functions using modern theoretical neuroscientific approaches. In this context, investigations at the systems level using modern approaches from the theoretical and/or computational neurosciences are particularly welcome. Thematically, the professorship should focus on one of the following areas: learning mechanisms, decision-making processes, sensory systems, sensorimotor integration/control, or the mechanistic understanding of neuronal networks in functional and dysfunctional brains. Collaborations with the experimental and theoretical neuroscientific research groups and research centres established in Freiburg are very welcome. Further information on neuroscientific research in Freiburg can be found on the website www.neuro.uni-freiburg.de as well as on the homepages of the Faculty of Biology www.bio.uni-freiburg.de and the Bernstein Center Freiburg www.bcf.uni-freiburg.de. Teaching contributions to the MSc Neuroscience, the BSc and MSc Biology, the Master of Education Biology as well as contributions to the organization of the MSc Neuroscience are expected.

Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected. Full Professorship (W3) for Molecular Plant Physiology (in succession to Prof. Klaus Palme)

We seek an internationally renowned scientist in the field of Molecular Plant Physiology with a strong interest in plant/environment interaction and signal transduction. We expect the successful candidate to actively contribute to planning of a collaborative research centre (SFB) on “Plant/Environment Interaction” as well as interactions with local excellence clusters and the Spemann Graduate School of Biology and Medicine (SGBM). The holder of the professorship will be responsible for teaching all aspects of Plant Physiology at Bachelor, Master, and PhD level.

Given the diversity within the University of Freiburg and its close collaborations e.g. the Research Station for Viticulture and the Forest Research Institute of the State of Baden-Württemberg, Freiburg is a highly competitive and internationally renowned research location and – together with the University of Basle (CH), the University of Strasbourg (F), the University Haute-Alsace (F) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (D) – also part of the „European Campus“.

Full Professorship (W3) for Molecular Immunology (in succession to Prof. Dr. Michael Reth)

We are looking for candidates with outstanding international reputation in Immunology working on molecular mechanisms of immune cell activation and development in the adaptive immune system. Especially invited are researchers working on signal transduction including aspects of synthetic biology in their research. Close cooperation with existing groups of the University of Freiburg would be appreciated as well as an active participation in the excellence initiatives and in collaborative projects, such as the Collaborative Research Center CRC1160, the TR130 and new projects to be founded. Cooperations with the Medical Faculty, e.g. the Centre for Chronic Immunodeficiency CCI and the Max-Planck-Institute for Immunobiology and Epigenetics are desirable.

The professor will be a member of the Faculty of Biology and will represent the subjects of Molecular and Cellular Immunology in the teaching programmes for the BSc, MSc and PhD study tracks.

Professur
Tenure-Track-Professorship for Theroretical Biology
Ausschreibungstext

This professorship is suitable for highly qualified early career researchers.

We are looking for candidates with an outstanding reputation in Theoretical Biology, working on modelling evolutionary and ecological processes. Especially invited are researchers studying biolog-ical interactions (e.g., evolution of cooperation/conflict, mutualisms/parasitism, multi-level selection, genic interactions). Close interactions and cooperation with existing groups of the University of Freiburg, including those with a molecular research focus, would be appreciated as would be active participation in establishing a Collaborative Research Center or a Graduate School on the topic “biological interactions”.

The professor will be a member of the Faculty of Biology and will represent the subjects Evolutionary Biology and Zoology in all its areas, including B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. studies. The professorship is co-responsible for the education of teacher students in the area of “Biodiversity & Ecology”. Further duties include participation in academic self-administration (according to § 46 i.V.m §2 Landeshochschulgesetz (State Law on Universities and Colleges). Prerequisites for the employment are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. This position is a fixed term role of four years. After a successful interim evaluation, it can be extended by two years. Furthermore, the tenure procedure towards Full Professorship W3 will be initiated after successful interim evaluation. The tenure procedures are regulated in the Statutes and Quality assurance concept for Junior Professorships with and without Tenure Track and agreed upon with the Ministry of Science. As a prerequisite for granting tenure and the subsequent conversion into a full professorship (W3) (1) the requirements defined in the Statutes and Quality assurance concept have to be met and (2) the subject specific criteria determined by the Faculty of Biology have to be met.
