What significance do plants have for pharmaceuticals and medicine? And what are the historic links between botanical gardens and herbal and phytotherapy? The fifteenth "Botanical Gardens Week" – which will be held throughout Germany from 9 June until 17 June 2018 – is dedicated to answering these questions. Its slogan is "The Green Apothecary – from 'Hortus Medicus' to Pharmaceutical Research." The Botanical Garden of the University of Freiburg is spotlighting the world of medicinal plants with a series of tours, arts & crafts sessions, a puzzle corner for children and families, and an exhibition of posters. All events are free of charge.

The week will open on Saturday, 9 June with a tour at 3 p.m. of the poster exhibition "The Green Apothecary – from 'Hortus Medicus' to Pharmaceutical Research." The tour will be held again on Sunday, 10 June at 1 p.m., and on Thursday, 14 June at 5:30 p.m. Coffee and cake will be served at the Botanical Garden on Sunday, 10 June. A plant sale will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. on the same day. Families may enjoy building dandelion key chains and there's also the puzzle corner, which is especially for children. Bionics tours for schoolchildren are being offered on Wednesday, 13 June from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On this tour, school pupils learn what nature has to teach technology. Advance telephone registration is required for these tours. Please call 0761/203-2872 to register. Tours will start at the entrance of the display greenhouses. On Sunday, 17 June from 1 to 5 p.m., coffee and cake will be served and additional family events held to will conclude "Botanical Gardens Week."
