Ways of Researching the Brain
The next series of lectures by the Bernstein Center Freiburg starts on Monday 22nd October 2018 at the Faculty of Biology
How does the brain control human behavior? What is the neuroscientific basis of learning and memory? And what is the effect of making music on the brain? These are just a few of the questions that will be looked at and discussed in clear and comprehensible terms by neuroscientists from throughout Germany on the ‘Ways of Researching the Brain’ lecture series, which is designed for a broad public with a general interest in current brain research. The opening lecture will be given by Prof. Dr. Joschka Bödecker, an expert in neurorobotics from the University of Freiburg. On Monday 22nd October 2018 he will be reporting on how real and artificial brains learn to take optimal decisions.
“Our last lecture series received an extraordinary response,” remarks Prof. Dr. Ad Aertsen about the success of the series of lectures in the last winter semester. “We had a lot of positive feedback from the public.” Reason enough for Ad Aertsen and his colleague Prof. Dr. Stefan Rotter, Director of the Bernstein Center Freiburg, to resume the series of lectures this winter semester too. Other subjects to be covered include the potential for studying the brain using imaging processes, how hearing aids influence brain activity, what brain researchers know about sleep, and what neuroscientific research can tell us about free will. The organizer is the Bernstein Center Freiburg, a central institution for experimental and theoretical research in the fields of computational neuroscience and neurotechnology at the University of Freiburg, in cooperation with the Faculty of Biology.
The lectures take place over 14 Mondays, beginning at 7 p.m. in the large hall of Biology II/III, at Schänzlestraße 1, 79104 Freiburg. The 40-minute lecture in German will be followed by a discussion. Admission is free. No need to register.
