Between the Mediterranean and Münster
Experience the diversity of the Botanical Garden on Saturday tours during the 2019 summer semester
How do trees protect themselves from external influences? What crops are there in the Mediterranean region? What is so special about the decorative plants in Freiburg Münster (cathedral)? Answers to these questions and more can be found during the Saturday guided tours in the Botanical Garden at the University of Freiburg. On April 6, 2019, Prof. Dr. Hanns-Heinz Kassemeyer will address the topic “The bark of wood plants - protection for plants and an important element in garden design.” On May 11, 2019, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Deil will report on Mediterranean crop plants in the Botanical Garden. On June 29, 2019, Prof. Dr. Arno Bogenrieder will provide on-site information on the decorative plants at the Freiburg Münster (cathedral). Nothart Rohde will provide tips and tricks for tropical flair in one’s own garden on July 20, 2019. Master gardener Dirk Rohleder will conclude the event on September 28, 2019 with the theme “In nature's colorful frenzy - a guided tour through the autumnal garden.”
The guided tours take place on Saturdays starting at 2pm. Participation costs three euros, which goes toward maintaining the garden. Children and young people up to the age of 16 as well as members of the Freunde und Förderer (Friends and Sponsors) of the Botanical Garden can participate free of charge. No registration is required. Meeting point is the main entrance of the Botanical Garden, Schänzlestraße 1, 79104 Freiburg, with the exception of June 29, 2019.
From June 8-16, 2019, Botanical Garden Week will take place to celebrate the 250th birthday of the natural scientist Alexander von Humboldt. The campaign’s motto is “Researchers, collectors, plant hunters - on the road with Humboldt & Co.”. A detailed program will be announced shortly.
